Danube River Cruise with Diane Morrisey 2023

Join Kelsey & Diane from @dianemorrisey on a Danube River Cruise, November 27th to December 6th, 2023! Together we’ll visit the Czech Republic, Germany & Austria.

Kelsey may be known for her Italy itineraries, but this travel advisor has seen a lot of Europe! There are many food, wine and beer festivals around the continent that Kelsey has been able to attend and enjoy. However, when mid November rolls around each year, there’s one thing that always comes to mind and she’s been waiting years to host this particular group trip- it’s Christmas Market time!

Starting things out in the beautiful, charming and historical city of Prague, you’ll meet Kelsey and her co-host Diane Morrisey. Enjoy the first three nights of the tour in a 5 star hotel. The location can’t get any better than this at the Emblem Hotel.

From Prague we will transfer all together in a private coach to the city of Nuremberg, where we will board our Amadeus River Cruise Ship, The Queen. 6 nights on board this newly built ship, sailing down the Danube River. We’ll visit small towns, large historical Abbey’s, try local delicacies along the way (there are many!) and our tour will come to a grand finale in the city of Vienna.

Don’t let the fun stop there. Add on another night to experience more of the city or more of Austria! Kelsey can assist you with all of your trip plans. You just need to show up and have fun, trust me, the rest will mostly be planned out for you. There’s even a healthy amount of free time on this trip, which is something that we always try to provide you with.

Your trip will include the following (and more!) Accommodations: 3 nights in Hotel Emblem (5 stars), 6 nights on the river cruise.

Full board including: Early Riser (reduced breakfast buffet in the Panorama-Bar), Buffet Breakfast (includes omelette service), Lunch (Buffet or table service depending upon the itinerary), Light Lunch (served in the Panorama-Bar), Dinner (5 courses, 3 choices for main course), Coffee & tea, iced water with meals, midnight (late night) snack. What is not included on the trip?

Round trip flights. Arrival and departure transfers. Travel insurance. Any optional excursions that you do with your free time or meals not listed in the itinerary. Shopping and personal expenses.

How much free time do these trips include?

Although some scheduled free time is included on our tours, most days are planned with activities for everyone to enjoy together. We try to leave free time in the afternoons and evenings. We do not want this to feel like a busy trip for you, so we kept that in mind while selecting day to day plans.

Can we opt out of activities?

While we encourage everyone to take part in the included activities, we recognize that sometimes you- or your travel buddy - need a break! You can certainly meek back up with the group later. We just ask that you share your decision with Kelsey beforehand. Also, we know you won’t want to miss out on what we’ve included on this trip!

Dietary restrictions?

We are happy to accommodate most food allergies. We will let the hotel and cruise ship know ahead of time if you have something that is important to take note of. The hotels, restaurants and our guides will do their best to accommodate our gluten free, dairy free clients or even pescatarians.

Physical Rating?

No hiking or biking included on this tour. We will keep things at a nice, leisurely pace. We will be on walking tours that can be from 1 hour to 3.5 hours long and you must be able to walk well on cobblestone/uneven streets. Strolling the Christmas markets and the old towns, with some occasional stairs. We’re welcoming ages 18 and up on this tour!

In the heart of the Old Town lies our most known site – St Stephen’s Cathedral, often known as a baroque cathedral with a gothic soul. The impressive pipe organ helps make St Stephen’s a true highlight of our three river city. High above the Old Town sits one of the largest fortress complexes in all Europe – the Veste Oberhaus which can be discovered on your own at the end of the walking tour. Accessible via the exterior walls, never conquered, never completely destroyed; the Veste Oberhaus is a prime example of long term historical construction. After lunch, you can visit the festively decorated Christmas market in Passau, and thereafter your ship weighs anchor and sets sail for Austria. The impressive Baroque abbey was built between 1702 and 1736 and is the biggest monastery complex of the Austrian baroque period. The abbey’s church, with frescos by Johann Michael Rottmayr, and the impressive library with countless medieval manuscripts and frescos by Paul Troger are particularly noteworthy. A 2 hour guided tour takes you through the abbot’s chambers, along the imperator’s walk, through the marble hall, the balconies and the library.
At the end of both tours, we invite you to a glühwein (mulled wine) party back on board the ship, while your vessel continue its journey to Vienna, which you will reach in the early evening. Then in the evening you can attend the concert “Sound of Vienna”. In the very place where Johann Strauss himself once directed his orchestra from his position as first violin, the true essence of Vienna’s classical music can once again be heard daily. The “Salonorchester Alt Wien”, one of the best-known interpreters of classical Viennese music, presents an evening full of Viennese charm with the lilting sound of waltzes, polkas, arias and duets, as well as operetta and piano concert melodies. Accompanied by excellent opera singers and enchanting ballet soloists, Vienna’s classical music reveals itself as a living firework display for the senses.

Enjoy a city sightseeing trip from the comfort of a tour coach, which will take you to the most beautiful sights and elegant buildings in Vienna. Also, the castle and park of Schönbrunn were the center of court and political life. Under the personal guidance of the Empress, it was remodelled and expanded to become a royal residence; a complex with a total of 1,441 rooms and halls was created. Visit many of the ceremonial rooms and then have the opportunity to walk around the beautifully designed gardens of the palace.
In the evening, an elegant captain’s Gala Dinner takes place on board, during which you can enjoy a wonderful Advent ambience.
